Your First Class

It’s always nice to know how things work before you show up, right? Getting started is super simple and fun. Here's an overview of your first class.

  1. On the day of your first class, we recommend showing up 10-15 minutes early. Once the safety waiver is completed, you'll then have time to get changed before class starts.

  2. We'll show you around the building. Pointing out where you’ll find the change rooms, washrooms, etc.

  3. At class time we'll head up to the training area.

  4. You'll be introduced to the class and then we bow in (respect and tradition are both important).

  5. We’ll then run through a cardio-fueled warm up with some stretching.

  6. You'll be partnered with a black belt instructor or a senior student for your intro class.

  7. Over the next 35 minutes you'll be guided through: how to train safely (eg., tapping out, verbal commands, etc.), basic punches, blocks, elbow strikes, simple kicks, basic grappling, takedowns and an arm control.

  8. Once our time is up (roughly 45 minutes), we'll line up and bow out.

  9. High fives all around. You did it! 🙌 Next, we’ll work with you about scheduling your next class.

Other important tips:

  • Wear comfy clothes that aren’t too baggy.

  • No shoes or socks are worn in the training studio, so leave those on the rack in the front.

  • Bring a water bottle.

  • Don’t be nervous. We’ll help you each step of the way. We all started in the same spot and we know you’re going to be amazing.

“My son has always struggled with anxiety and trying new things. They were extremely patient and understanding, helping him feel comfortable. He struggles going in at every drop off and comes out bouncing, smiling and excited to show me what he learned. They are fantastic!”
